Top Tips for finding your Wedding Videographer

You’re now planning your day and, we hope, looking for the perfect wedding videography team for your day. Take a read of our top tips for finding your wedding videographer to see what we believe is essential in finding that perfect fit.

TIP 1 – STYLE

This is first and foremost the MOST important thing to decide upon. There are a number of different approaches to wedding videography and you should decide if you want a wedding film that tells a story of your day using audio soundbites from the ceremony and speeches or do you want just a music montage of all the clips the videographer captured? Here at In Love Wedding Films, we believe in telling a cinematic story of your day, which includes snippets of audio from the day itself woven into the film and specially chosen music. We believe it engages the viewers of the film the most and tells a compelling story.

TIP 2 – BUDGET

Our second tip for finding your wedding videographer is the “how much will it cost” question. This really depends fully on how much you value your memories of your wedding day… A good wedding videographer will not be cheap and the more you budget for your videographer the better your film will be. Huffington Post have written an excellent article on wedding budgets which is a great read for planning your day. We advise to check EXACTLY what each videographer offers in their price, how many camera operators? what films will you receive? how will you receive them? does the price include anything like drone footage?

TIP 3 – TECHIE STUFF

You’ll often find generic wedding blogs telling you a list of questions to ask your wedding videographer which include a list of exactly what equipment the videographer uses. We believe this is totally irrelevant and likely the answers you get won’t make any sense to you unless you know about filmmaking, cameras and audio equipment. I personally have never, for example, gone into a restaurant and ask what grill the chef is using! If you’ve researched the style of your videographer and watched example films and read feedback from other couples and they’re all up to scratch, you know they’ll do a good job on your day.

TIP 4 – WHO WILL BE FILMING YOUR DAY?

Our next tip for finding your wedding videographer is really important. Who exactly is filming your day? Some wedding videography companies use freelance camera operators they send to film your day, the person you’ve spoken to and thought is attending your day isn’t who shows up. Sometimes it also isn’t who edits your weddings as well, meaning the quality on the companies websites may not match what you receive. We believe in a personal service. Paul the Creative Director deals with bookings, meetings, films and edits. We offer two options depending on budget, one with our Creative Team (of which Paul is always present) and one option where Paul is the exclusive wedding filmmaker on your day.

TIP 5 – DO YOU GET ON WITH THEM?

This ties into the above as well. You’ll be spending all your wedding day with the videographer, so how do you get on with them? You don’t want to end up spending a day with someone who dislike and who has a poor attitude. You can either arrange a meeting with a videographer, see them at a wedding show, chat to them online and read other feedback from couples to see what they are like.

BONUS TOP TIPS FOR FINDING YOUR WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHER

Make sure your videographer gives you a contract and is fully insured. This is important both legally and for your peace of mind.
